Ejemplos de writing B2 First corregidos, criterio a criterio
In your English class you have been talking about technology and young people. Now your English teacher has asked you to write an essay.
Do young people today spend too much time on their phones?
Notes. Write about: 1. studying, 2. friendships, 3. ........ (your own idea)
Write your essay in 140-190 words.
183 palabras.
Nowadays is very common to see young people with the phone in the hand all the day. In my opinion, they spend too much time with it, but not everything is negative.
First of all, the studies. Many students use the phone when they are doing their homework and they can't concentrate. For example my brother has 16 years and he look Instagram every five minutes when he study for the exams. Of course the phone can be useful for search information, but the most of the time is for distract.
Secondly, the friendships. Is true that with WhatsApp you can speak with your friends all the time. But I think that the relations are more superficial now, because people prefer to send a message than to meet in the street. When I was child we played in the park every afternoon.
Finally, the phone is bad for the health also, because the people don't sleep enough and they are tired in the class.
In conclusion, I think young people spend too much time with the phone and they should use it less.
| Criterio | Banda |
|---|---|
| Content | 5 |
| Communicative Achievement | 3 |
| Organisation | 3 |
| Language | 2 |
| Total | 13/20 |
Content (5).
Communicative Achievement (3).
Organisation (3). Se sigue bien: First of all, Secondly, Finally, In conclusion. First of all, the studies.»).
- Nowadays is very common → Nowadays it is very common. En inglés el sujeto no se omite; lo mismo en «Is true that».
- my brother has 16 years → my brother is 16. Traducción literal de «tiene 16 años».
- he look Instagram… when he study → he looks at Instagram… when he studies.
- useful for search information → useful for searching for information.
- the most of the time is for distract → most of the time it is a distraction.
Para Organisation, cambia los fragmentos por frases de tema de verdad: «Phones make it harder for students to concentrate» dice lo mismo que «First of all, the studies» y además organiza el párrafo.
Ejemplo 2: el mismo essay a 20/20 (Band 5)
186 palabras. Mismo enunciado, mismas tres ideas.
Smartphones have become so much a part of teenage life that it is hard to imagine a school corridor without them. Whether young people use them too much, however, depends on what they use them for.
As far as studying is concerned, the phone is a double-edged tool. A student can check a date or watch a video explaining an equation in seconds, which once took an afternoon in a library. The problem is that it keeps interrupting. Every notification breaks concentration, and getting back into a difficult text takes minutes.
Friendships are a different story. Group chats allow teenagers to stay in touch with friends who have moved to another city, something their parents could not do. Nevertheless, a message is not a conversation, and many teenagers admit feeling lonelier than ever.
Perhaps the most worrying effect is on sleep. Scrolling late at night delays sleep, so pupils arrive at school exhausted.
On balance, I believe most young people do spend too much time on their phones, not because the phone is harmful in itself, but because nobody teaches them when to switch it off.
| Criterio | Banda |
|---|---|
| Content | 5 |
| Communicative Achievement | 5 |
| Organisation | 5 |
| Language | 5 |
| Total | 20/20 |
Content (5).
Communicative Achievement (5).
Organisation (5). Fíjate en cómo arranca cada párrafo: «As far as studying is concerned», «Friendships are a different story», «Perhaps the most worrying effect». No hay ni un Firstly. Las frases se enganchan con referencias («the same», «it»), no con conectores de lista.
Language (5). Estructuras variadas sin pasarse: una relativa con which, un gerundio de sujeto («getting back into a difficult text»), el énfasis con do («do spend») y un «not because… but because» al final. Vocabulario preciso: double-edged, breaks concentration, exhausted.
You have received this email from your English-speaking friend Sam.
Hi! I'm coming to Spain for two weeks in July and I'd love to spend a few days in your city. What's the best way to get around? What should I definitely see? And is July a good time to visit, or will it be too hot? Thanks, Sam
Write your email to Sam in 140-190 words.
La respuesta, 173 palabras:
Hi Sam,
Great to hear from you! I'm very exciting that you come to Spain, and of course you have to stay a few days in Valencia.
About moving in the city, the best option is rent a bike. There are bike lanes almost everywhere and it's very cheap. The metro is also good if you want go to the beach or to the airport, but it doesn't arrive to every neighbourhood.
There are a lot of things for see, but you mustn't miss the City of Arts and Sciences, it's amazing, specially at night when the buildings are lighted. I also recommend you to walk around the old town and eat a real paella in a restaurant near the beach, not in the touristic centre.
The only problem is the weather. In July it makes a lot of heat and is very humid, sometimes 35 degrees, so visit the monuments early in the morning and go to the beach later.
Let me know your dates and I'll show you around!
Best, Lucía
| Criterio | Banda |
|---|---|
| Content | 5 |
| Communicative Achievement | 4 |
| Organisation | 4 |
| Language | 3 |
| Total | 16/20 |
Content (5).
Communicative Achievement (4). El tono de email a un amigo está bien conseguido: «Great to hear from you!», «I'll show you around!». About moving in the city»).
Organisation (4). Un párrafo por pregunta, fácil de seguir. Pierde un punto por pegar frases con comas donde hace falta un punto: «the City of Arts and Sciences, it's amazing».
Language (3).
- I'm very exciting → I'm very excited. El clásico -ed/-ing.
- the best option is rent a bike → the best option is to rent a bike.
- if you want go → if you want to go; things for see → things to see.
- In July it makes a lot of heat → In July it's really hot. «Hace calor» no se traduce con make.
- doesn't arrive to every neighbourhood → doesn't reach every neighbourhood.
¿Puedo corregir mi writing del B2 First gratis?
