Extract 1

Woman: I was really impressed by the exhibition, actually. I mean, I went expecting it to be a bit dry — you know how these things can be — but the way they'd set it up with all the interactive displays really brought it to life. My only criticism would be that it was quite crowded, which made it hard to take everything in.

Extract 2

Man: So I finally handed in my resignation yesterday. I know everyone thinks I'm mad giving up a secure job, but honestly, I've been thinking about this for months. It's not about the money — the pay was fine. It's more that I felt like I wasn't developing anymore. I need something that challenges me.

Extract 3

Woman: Thanks for coming to pick me up. The train was absolutely packed — standing room only the whole way. And then when we finally got here, there was a twenty-minute wait for a taxi. I should have just driven, but I thought the train would be quicker with all the roadworks on the motorway.

Extract 4

Man: I've been using this new language app and it's actually quite good. What I like about it is that it adapts to your level — so when you get something right consistently, it moves you on rather than making you repeat things you already know. The design could be better, though. It looks a bit dated compared to other apps.

Extract 5

Woman: I spoke to the landlord about the leak in the bathroom ceiling. He said he'd send someone round next week, but that's what he said last month. I'm getting really frustrated. Maybe I should put it in writing — send him a formal letter. That way there's a record of it if things get worse.

Extract 6

Man: The documentary about ocean pollution was on last night. Did you catch it? I found it quite hard-hitting. They showed footage from places I'd never even heard of, and the statistics were genuinely shocking. I do think they could have focused more on solutions, though. It left me feeling a bit hopeless.

Extract 7

Woman: I've just come back from the doctor's. She said the headaches are most likely caused by tension — probably stress-related. She suggested I try some relaxation techniques before jumping to medication. I was a bit sceptical at first, but she showed me a couple of breathing exercises that actually seemed to help.

Extract 8

Man: We ended up going to that new Italian place on the corner. The food was honestly some of the best I've had in ages — really authentic. The service was a bit slow, but the waiter was friendly enough and apologised. I think they were just understaffed. I'd definitely go back.
