For questions 1-8, read the text below and think of the word which best fits each gap. Use only one word in each gap.
Standing in a queue is one of those everyday experiences that almost nobody enjoys, and 1 most of us do it many times a week without giving it much thought. Researchers who study human behaviour have found that our feelings about waiting have surprisingly little to 2 with the actual length of the wait.
What matters far more is whether the wait feels fair. People become genuinely annoyed 3 they see someone push in 4 of them, even if this saves them only a few seconds. A wait that seems pointless is also harder to bear 5 one that is clearly explained. This is 6 many airports now display the estimated waiting time on screens.
Interestingly, giving people something to do can make a queue feel much shorter, 7 is why some restaurants hand menus to customers who are still waiting for a table. The lesson 8 businesses is clear: managing how a wait feels is often more important than reducing how long it actually lasts.
Antes de buscar un verbo, prueba con "which", "than", "as", "so".
- 3.Leer solo hasta el hueco. En "the lesson ___ businesses is clear", la frase entera te dice que es "for".
Preguntas frecuentes
Aquí igual: en el hueco 3, "when", "if" y "whenever" valen.
En pocas semanas verás que se repiten las mismas 30: which, whose, despite, although, such, so, unless, as, what.
